Our featured bead store this month is Funky Lula's Beads & Baubles

Funky Lula's got its start in May, 2005 when owners Kim and Ron Glass took a good look around them and saw that there was an unique opportunity awaiting them in their small beachside town of Mornington, located just outside the Melbourne metropolitan area in south eastern Australia. The Mornington Peninsula attracts a huge number of both city dwellers and interstate visitors as a popular holiday destination, as well as a burgeoning population due to the "sea change" wave that is sweeping the world!

After an inspiring holiday trip to tropical Queensland in 2004, an area which promoted more of a "bead culture" at that time, Kim and Ron returned home with ideas for opening their own business in their little corner of Australia. Funky Lula's was born not long after that.

With an unique selection of beads and a shop absolutely "fizzing" with colour, Funky Lula's brings a smile to the face of the unsuspecting first time visitor with its "lolly shop" look, and on further inspection, vast array of beads and findings. Offering a fantastic selection of glass beads from around the world, a range of Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones, and all manner of fun and colourful stringing alternatives, there is something for everyone, from beginner beadaholics to advanced addicts!

The selection of classes offered at Funky Lula's is what sets truly them apart. Wirework is the specialty of the house, but there is a vast array of other classes on offer as well, including pearl knotting, chain mail, and a beautiful crochet necklace. With a warm, intimate environment, and friendly staff, there is always a welcoming smile as you walk in the door.

Funky Lula's will soon have its website up and going, with further information about classes on offer, and opportunities to purchase project kits with full instructions for making your own pieces at home. Kim Glass has recently been featured in several Australian national beading magazines, sharing some of her wire projects with the their readers, and helping to further the "beading craze" that has only been evident in Australia in more recent years, yet to catch up with other parts of the world.
