SPOTLIGHT ON ... DESIGNER
May 2010
Our featured designer for this month is Joy Masters
I love shiny things, jewelry, chocolate, my dude (a.k.a husband), my family, my friends, chocolate, music, comedy, all things Celtic and once again, chocolate. Not necessarily in that order.
I believe jewelry has the power to transform your look, but also your mood. I first started designing after I got a job working in a corporate environment where I had to keep my clothing very simple and serious (frowny face). I quickly learned to use jewelry to spice up my outfit and my day. Even today, if I am feeling blue I can put on a piece that reminds me of an event or a person or even if it just has a quirky shape or special color, that's all I need to put a smile on my face. I'm pretty sure it's scientifically proven that if you put on a piece of jewelry and it makes you feel good, you will go out into the world and do good. Jewelry = better world.
I love working with wire, colorful stones and different textures. I like letting the stones and wire speak for themselves when they want to. It sounds crazy, but often you can hear where they want to go if you listen. This could be one reason why I am drawn to spirals, they are so free and fun! I am also inspired by music, movement and Celtic designs which are actually, largely, nature based. I tend towards organic, earthy, whimsical designs. My goal is to uplift others with my jewelry. Or even just brighten their day, just a little. |
