SPOTLIGHT ON ... DESIGNER
June 2008

Our featured designer for this month is Lori Greenberg.

Growing up artistic was no easy feat. When my heart screamed to always be creating, influences around me indicated that that was not a practical way to make a living. I went through college and graduated with a degree in textile design, worked in a weaving studio for a while and began to think that maybe those influences were right. I worked in corporate America for a while and then went back to school for an advanced degree in counseling.

It wasn't until I met my husband that I started to change the way I thought about making a living by creating art. Slowly but surely he helped change my thoughts and encouraged me to go for it. He taught me to not let anyone tell me it can’t be done and if they do, then prove them wrong! That is my message to others: Anything is possible if you set your mind to it.

With the resurgence of the craft movement the marketplace competition continues to grow. I have always believed that to stand apart in the crowd I need to be innovative, creative and unique. On top of that, I believe in making the best product possible and standing behind my work.

My work shows that I am fascinated with textured surface design and layers upon layers of color for added depth. I like to work with materials that aren't mainstream and shapes and styles that you don't often see. In designing beads, I always strive for my work to speak to people in a way that they don't fully understand, but they feel it. I love hearing people tell me what they see in my work, as everyone sees something different.

The thing I love about beads is that it is a way for people to be able to carry around and enjoy art anywhere they go.
