SPOTLIGHT ON ... DESIGNER
June 2007
Our featured designer for this month is Jacqueline McPherson
From an early age Jacqueline has been involved with arts and crafts. She took ceramics classes with her mother beginning in elementary school and went on to take photography classes throughout junior high and high school. She was always involved in creating something and soon began taking classes at a craft store.
Finally, it was a wirework and bead stringing class that had her hooked. For the past four years, Jacqueline has been creating one of a kind pieces of wearable art using sterling and Bali silver, semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and lamp work glass beads. "I choose only high quality components for my jewelry, since each piece is an original I want to be sure its something that will last for years", says Jacqueline. Also important to Jacqueline is giving back to the community.
"I love making pieces for charity auctions and other non-profit events. Volunteering is a passion of mine and I have worked for several non-profits in the past, so I know how difficult it can be for some of the smaller organizations to raise funds to continue their mission in the community."
Jacqueline's designs can be purchased online at www.sassycatdesigns.com or at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market.
"I have been involved with the market for two years now and have met some really amazing artists. If you live in the area or are just visiting, definitely plan to spend some time at the Market one Saturday. I even had a woman tell me she was visiting from out of state and planned her trip around a date when I would be at the market. Her daughter had bought her earrings as a Christmas present the previous year and she wanted to buy some more pieces to add to her collection".
