SPOTLIGHT ON ... STORE
December 2008
Our featured bead store this month is Albion Beads
Albion Beads opened in October 2002, so we've just celebrated our sixth anniversary! We carry a full line of Japanese seed beads, Czech seed beads and firepolish, Swarovski crystal, Bali silver and sterling and gold filled findings, freshwater pearls, ceramic beads made by a local New Hampshire artist, tools and supplies, and of course, our favorite stringing material, SoftFlex. SoftFlex is the only stringing material of its kind that I carry and recommend to my customers.
I started my career in the jewelry field working for a findings supply company in Boston, and from there went on to study jewelry making in England. When I returned to the US, I worked in the retail jewelry business, and then attended the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, CA, becoming a Graduate Gemologist. My career veered from jewelry after that, and I worked as a proofreader and editor in the biotech industry, until my employer moved the office to New York, and I was laid off. I had kept up my interest in jewelry and beading, and realized that getting laid off gave me an opportunity to open my own bead store, so, without taking time to make a business plan, I jumped right in! I found a wonderful space with nice big front windows, in a scenic town approximately 15 miles north of Boston, and the best part is all the new beading friends I've made.
