Beadwork Inspired by Art: Art Nouveau jewelry and accessories:
by Jean Campbell & Judith Durant
Beadwork Inspired by Art: Art Nouveau jewelry and accessories: by Jean Campbell & Judith Durant offers a unique view. "Inspired by the great masterpieces of fine artists - and working with a vast array of beads and numerous techniques from stringing to weaving - beadworkers can produce their own works of art." Jean & Judith constructed 12 designs that were influenced by their favorite Art Nouveau masterpieces. "Art Nouveau, which means "new art" in French, is a style of art, design, and architecture that developed across Western Europe and North America in the late nineteenth century and ended at the onset of World War 1 in 1914 ... Characterized during its early phase by flowing lines and curves-often in the form of flowers, vines, and leaves, and later in more geometric, rectilinear, and cubic forms-the style was used in architecture, interior design, jewelry, sculpture, and glassworks in addition to paintings, illustrations, and posters." I love the colors in this book. The projects pop off the pages. Their inspiration is drawn from so many different types of items, from a lamp, a painting to a ceiling dome. I love the transition from one work of art to another, very neat!
From the back cover: "You'll find the historical photograph that inspired each project and detailed step-by-step instructions and drawings for beading it, too. Make all twelve, and soon you'll be designing your own works of art!"
Works of art include paintings by, but are not limited to:
-
Painting by Vitezlav Karel Masek
-
Council Room Door by Franz von Stuck
-
Laburnum Lamp by Louis Comfort Tiffany
-
Galeries Lafayette Dome (ceiling) designed by Georges Chedanne & Ferdinand Chanut.
