Our collection of weaving dollies and knitting spools are excellent for those of you out there who like to make your own chain. For use with the spools, we carry two different styles of wire draw plates, for condensing the diameter and smoothing the chain at the same time.:
Step 1: Thread Soft Flex® Wire, Artistic Wire, or thread through the top hole of the Knitting Spool. Secure the loose end around the bottom of the Knitting Spool.
Step 2: Loop the wire or thread around Peg A, clockwise. Pull through the middle and loop around Peg B, also clockwise. Repeat this step for both pegs C and D.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 (giving you two loops on each peg).
Step 4: Using a hook or pick, pull the bottom loop of the wire or thread over the top loop on all 4 pegs. This will leave one loop on each peg. Pull lightly from the bottom to tighten the weave. Repeat step 2 again.
Step 5: Repeat step 4.
Step 6: Continue steps 4 and 5 until the chain is to the desired length.
Step 7: After chain is complete, pull through the wire draw plate to condense and smooth out the chain.
