Any wire designer knows the difficulty in learning how to not knick or harm your wire with your metal pliers. We have a few suggestions for you!
Use nylon jaw pliers. Due to the nylon jaws, the wire is less likely to be scratched or marred while being worked on.
Dressing your pliers can be helpful. It will smooth over imperfections on the tool and smoothes the tool edges making your pliers less likely to leave a mark.
- Buff tools with 000 steel wool.
- Sand tools with sand paper. Take a piece of 600 Wet or Dry Sand paper, attach it to the end of a paint stick and rub on the edges of all pliers.
- Apply Tool Magic. This is a heavy duty rubber coating that you apply to the tips of your pliers. This will keep the wire from getting nicked from imperpections on the tool.
- Apply painter or masking tape. Usually readily available in most households however, it can leave a sticky resiude on the tool blade when removed. You may use rubbing alcohol to remove the residue.
Practice really does make perfect.Try practicing with some plain bare copper wire. When you are to a point where you no longer knick your wire, move on to the many colors and gauges that we offer!
