Iolite is sometimes called a "water sapphire" because of it's striking color. It is named for the Greek word for violet. Iolite is strongly pleochroic, which means that depending on the angle it is viewed, it may appear as a blue stone on one side, a yellow or colorless on the other sides. Mohs' Hardness Scale: 7-7.5 Iolite (indigo/ violet) represents the third eye chakra, which is located at the center of the forehead. Iolite helps calm an overactive mind. It separates the mind from emotion and allows one to see from a higher view point. Iolite stimulates the third eye and enhances visionary abilities, meditative attunement, and creative expression. Iolite is a September stone. It resonates with the astrological signs Libra, Sagittarius and Taurus. |
